About the Webinar
All types of digital real estate — from websites and apps to sales portals — need to accommodate various types of Users and different User Needs.
However, a potential User’s known disability or specific medical diagnosis can be of limited assistance when trying to design the site for easy use. This is because a diagnosis can tell designers very little about the User’s capability, which can also be determined by access to assistive technology, experience, knowledge, learned strategies, socio economic or language factors, how they are impacted by their condition, and transient factors such as their environment and energy level.
People with disability and/or neurodivergence are a very diverse group. It is estimated that over 30% of society is impacted by a range of conditions, sometimes multiple ones.
As designers, developers, product owners and business leaders, we need to know how to include all types of Users, with divergent User Needs and perceptive experience, including:
- Deaf or Culturally Deaf (sign language first) <0.5%
- Severely Vision Impaired or Blind <1%
- Significantly Vision Impaired 4%
- ASC or Learning Disability 5%
- Upper Body Motor Disability or Limb Difference 8+%
- Significantly Hearing Impaired 12%
- Neurodivergent (Dyslexia, ADHD, ADD…) 15%
This webinar will explore User Data, and the diversity of variables that impact User ability; how to best collect data using meaningful evaluation, not only with Users who self-identify as “disabled” but everyone who experiences barriers. And most importantly, how this data can be refocused to User Needs often shared by multiple user groups.
When User groups are combined using shared needs, the numbers show a more accurate picture of the impact of any product design decisions on the whole audience, increasing our audience reach.
